- Kyoto
This is Kyoto. Kyoto used to be the capital city of Japan a very long time ago. There are many old shrines and temples. Many senior high school students come to Kyoto on school trips from all over Japan. - Nijo-jo Castle
This is Nijo-jo Castle. It was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1603 and is designated as a World Heritage Site. - Visiting Kiyomizu-dera Temple
The students are going to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. This temple was built in 778. It is a famous sightseeing spot. Almost all schools visit this temple on school trips. - In the bus
These high school students are from Iwate Prefecture. Schools usually use a bus on school trips. - Bus guide

The students split into groups for independent tours. Each group goes to places they want to visit. This is Ninna-ji Temple. It is very famous. - Inside the temple
They are going into the temple through Nio-mon Gate. - Goju-no-to Pagoda
This is Goju-no-to [five-storied pagoda] at Ninna-ji Temple. It was built in 888 and is designated as a World Heritage Site. - Japanese gardens
This is the north garden of Ninna-ji Temple. It is now the season of autumn leaves, and the temple looks even more beautiful. - Taking pictures by digital camera
Students take pictures with a digital camera. You can see the pictures right after taking them. - Kyogashi Museum 1
This is Kyogashi Museum, or the Kyoto confectionary museum. Here you can learn the history and skills of traditional Kyoto confectionary. - Kyogashi Museum 2

This is a Japanese cake named Unryu. It is the most famous cake in this shop. Visitors buy it as a souvenir. - Guidebook
The students are walking in groups, looking at a guidebook. This group has lost the way to Shiramine-jingu Shrine, but local people tell them how to get there. The students thank them and head for the shrine. - Japanese inn
After enjoying the Kyoto sights, each group returns to the Japanese inn where they are staying by 5pm. The groups that are about to be late run to the inn. At the entrance of the inn the school's name is displayed. - Making tea
In the rooms of the inn, sweets, tea leaves, thermos bottles and cups stand at the ready. You can eat and drink as much as you want. - Rooms of a Japanese inn
Kyoto is a very traditional place. This group visited Nijo-jo Castle and Shiramine-jingu Shrine. Since they ran back to the inn, they look tired. - Dinner at the inn
Now it's dinner time. All of them eat together. Some are wearing school uniforms and others school gym suits. - Sukiyaki
Tonight's menu is sukiyaki, a typical Japanese food. Put meat and vegetables in the pot, add soup stock, soy sauce and sugar, and cook. When done, you eat sukiyaki by dipping it in raw egg. - Shopping arcade
After dinner, the students buy souvenirs at the Shin-Kyougoku arcade near the inn. - Souvenir shop
There are many items which look typically Japanese in the souvenir shops in Kyoto. Wooden combs, folding fans and small items made of Japanese washi paper are displayed. - Kiyomizu ware
Kiyomizu ware such as tea cups and rice bowls are a specialty of Kyoto. In several shops you can try painting a tea cup. - Nama-yatsuhashi 1
Nama-yatsuhashi is one of the most famous souvenir sweets in Kyoto. It usually contains anko sweet bean paste, but nowadays different kinds of anko and such things as chocolate are put in this traditional sweet. - Nama-yatsuhashi 2
They are buying many boxes of nama-yatsuhashi. He bought chocolate nama-yatsuhashi. - Returning from school trip
The next day they are leaving Kyoto. They are carrying many souvenirs. - Sightseeing bus
They are going back home by bus. They take good memories of the school trip to Kyoto back with them.
